Cleve has won a total of seven RHS Gold Medals. His garden for Bupa in 2008 at the Chelsea Flower Show also won the BBC/RHS People's Choice Award and, for two years in succession, Cleve has won the coveted Best in Show Award for the Telegraph Garden in 2011 and Brewin Dolphin in 2012.
On television Cleve was a guest designer in both series of BBC 2’s ‘Small Town Gardens’ (2001 and 2002) and ‘The Garden Makers’ (2004). He featured in ‘The Joy of Gardening’ (BBC2 Dec 2001 & 2002) and was co-presenter on the 15 part series for ‘Take Three Gardeners’ (UKTV 2002).
He is now working with Joe Swift and James Alexander-Sinclair, collectively known as 3 Men Went 2 Mow, making short films and stage performances with a comic and slightly irreverent take on the horticultural world.
Cleve writes regularly for newspapers and periodicals. His five year column for the Independent Magazine, ‘Urban Gardener’, drew on an eclectic range of topics, from the practical to the bizarre and the peculiarities of how digging, weeding and moaning about slugs can actually keep us quite sane in an increasingly mad world.
